Michael Rae was born in 1983.
He was a curious young boy, who always wanted to learn something new. As a
child one of his favorite things to do, was to read. He would read every book
he could get his hands on, usually just his story books. When he wasn’t
reading, he spent most of his time learning how to work on the ranch.
While growing up, Michael was
a member of the Boy Scouts of America, from the time he was 8 until he
turned 18. At the age of 14, he received the Eagle Scout award, the
organizations highest award, which was based on learning, service, and
leadership. He held many leadership positions during the decade spent in the
Boy Scout program.
One of Michael’s favorite
pastimes is working on the ranch. He loves working hard and the feeling of
satisfaction that comes after a long days work. In his mind, there is
nothing quite like it. He has always maintained that “hard work is the key
to living to an old age”.
Many of life’s important
lessons are taught by the experiences of others. Learning from others
mistakes is much less painful than experiencing defeat personally. Michael
has had many people to whom he has looked for guidance. His grandfathers and
father are among the most notable. Michael has always made a priority of
finding successful people to study and emulate.
During his second year of
college at BYU-Idaho, Michael was a Communication major, with some political
knowledge; several students and a club advisor approached Michael about
taking on a leadership role in the university’s College Republican club.
Michael accepted a position as a recruitment chairman, but after three weeks
was asked to assume the role of Chairman, due to an unexpected vacancy. He
accepted.
It was a summer semester. The
club was small in the summer time. In years past, there were typically less
than ten members attending regularly. Michael was able to bolster the
support of the club, and within a few short weeks had attendance of
approximately 40 people per week. That was a 400% increase!
Michael has the ability to
adapt to the situations he faces, whether increased knowledge is required or
winning over a potentially vital person for a cause. Michael Rae has the
skills necessary to be an effective leader.
